Metzner expands its competence in foil processing for high-voltage cables

January 31, 2019

Neu-Ulm, January 30, 2019: In recent years, Metzner Maschinenbau GmbH has continuously invested in the expansion of the future-oriented field of e-mobility. During this time, the Metzner development team has significantly expanded its competencies and initiated numerous further developments in the automated machining process of high-voltage cables. This is now paying off: The company already offers tried and tested solutions for around half of all work steps required in the process chain of this special cable processing - from semi-automatic machines to entire production lines with a higher degree of automation.

Metzner machines are now capable of processing cables from a wide range of manufacturers and with different cross-sections (diameters from 4 to 120 mm²). In addition, the machine manufacturer has succeeded in making an important advance in the automatic foil processing of high-voltage cables: With the help of the process developed by Metzner, not only foils with a length of 40 mm, but up to 200 mm can now be removed safely and precisely. And this is now also possible for high-voltage cables with a manufacturer-dependent adhesive foil fit on the braided shield. The fact that the foil in this case has a relatively strong bond with the braid makes its removal much more difficult than with foils with an adhesive fit on the outer sheath. In addition, Metzner has now also successfully implemented the automatic cutting back of the cable shield for lengths of over 100 mm.

"This shows that, following the progress already made in high-voltage cable processing, we are continuing to work flat out to be able to cover the entire process chain soon - especially the various connector assembly steps," says Managing Director Gerhard Rauch. On the way to this goal, the company has now again made decisive progress.

With machines of the EM series from Metzner Maschinenbau, among other things, the foil of high-voltage cables can be removed safely and precisely with an adhesive fit on the cable shield braid.

Foil removal for lengths of up to 200 mm is now also possible for high-voltage cables - and this for cables with different cross-sections. Metzner machines also reliably cut back the cable shield automatically by lengths of more than 100 mm (right).
