Can steel-reinforced rubber and plastic products be cut automatically?

Yes. There are special machines that cut steel-reinforced rubber and plastic products. Depending on the reinforcement, gap detection is a particularly useful tool. In the case of herringbone-shaped reinforcements, the machine detects gaps and makes the cut right there. This makes the cut burr-free. The blade also has a longer service life.

What is the advantage of the moistened cut?

The moistened cut is more precise. Thanks to the fluid, burr formation is prevented. The heating of the metal and thus the risk of the melting of the rubber or plastic part is also significantly lower. The blade also lasts longer

Can you process reinforced pp automatically?

Yes, that is possible. It should be noted that the metal reinforcement heats up considerably during cutting. The PP can then melt. To prevent this, the machine should cut while moistened. If it is not a continuous reinforcement but a herringbone pattern, for example, gap detection is a great advantage: the knife then cuts in the gaps and not into the metal. Burr formation is thus minimized.

How to automate the processing of reinforced plastic material?

A typical process structure could be that the rubber or plastic profile comes out of the extruder and is then reinforced with steel. Depending on the end product, a piping or a fabric strip can be added, for example. The resulting product is then cut to size. Special machines for reinforced rubber and plastic products are used for this purpose.

The Metzner CCM 4 automatic cutting machine masters both, dry and wet cutting. For these purposes, you have the choice between a water cooling lubrication system or micro-knife lubrication. As standard, it has a generously dimensioned discharge conveyor (800 mm | 2’7″ long).

CUSTOMIZATION

As with all Metzner machines, it is possible not only to customize the CCM models, but also to adapt the automatic cutting machine to your needs with standardized modules.

Gap detection

Thanks to the gap detection, the knife cuts exactly in the gap und thus produces a snagfree cut in the metal carrier. This improves the cut; and it spares the knife.

Profile clamping

Thanks to the profile clamping, the material is optimally fixed during the cut. Another advantage occurs when you use abrasive discs. In this case, it improves the cuts’ surfaces. Thus, they are perfectly prepared for welding the sealing profiles without reworking.

Additional cutting tool

As standard, the Metzner CCM 4 is equipped with a place for an additional cutting tool. So, you can easily make it an allrounder that can also be used for materials without steel re-inforcement.

Cutting on the marks

A sensor detects marked areas and controls the cut to the mark. Of course, a required distance to the marker can be set.

Automatic scrap cut

A sensor detects marked and nonconforming material areas. The machine independently performs a waste cut. Material that does not meet the specification is thus not processed further as part of the automatic quality control.

Network

With this tool, CCM machines send production status information to an external control station. Combined with Profibus connectors, they can be completely remote controlled.

E-Service Modul

Thanks to this tool, each CCM has optionally its own IP address or access to the mobile network. This is how Metzner Service supports you effectively and cost-efficiently with fault diagnoses, spare parts advice or repair recommendations.
